American Milestones Joan Lunden, and Dentistry

American Milestones with Joan Lunden, and Literacy

The ability to read and write proficiently is more or less a prerequisite for success in most professions. However, many people neglect to learn these basic skills for whatever reasons. For many, a youthful resistance to learning leaves them lacking later in life. Others do not master the skills of writing and reading because of poor education, a home environment that discourages learning, or a myriad of other reasons. Society tasks teachers and educators with the responsibility of teaching literacy to young people and growing the leaders of tomorrow.

Many adults go back to school to improve their literacy after they realize that they need strong reading and writing skills to not only get by in the world, but especially to get ahead. Many communities offer adult education courses to improve adult literacy.

Many people face the challenge of learning to read and write English after growing up in a foreign country. For them, learning English as a second language can come with even more challenges.

The television show American Milestones with Joan Lunden will discuss the importance of literacy in today’s economy, and highlight different ways that educators are trying to prepare young people for success in our multi-cultural society. American Milestones Joan Lunden will highlight different programs that help young people develop a love for reading and writing, and programs that help older Americans better their reading and writing skills.
