Progress American Milestones with Joan Lunden

Progress has long characterized American society. Although the United States has made mistakes and had times during which it has not lived up to its ideals as it has moved forward, our country has kept marching onward, leading to prosperity, innovation and a high standard of living for most of the residents of our country. It took a long time, but eventually women achieved equal rights to men, and the rights of minorities have also become protected. We have not achieved perfect equality, but as time goes on, we move closer to a more perfect union.

Compared with the plight of people living around the world, Americans are relatively well-off and enjoy luxuries and privileges that most people could only dream of. We take for granted so much, including things like paved roads, public education, reliable utilities like water and electricity, and clean drinking water that billions of people around the world yearn for.

An educational TV program, the American Milestones Joan Lunden show, takes a look at stories and examples of progress throughout the United States and around the globe. It highlights encouraging trends and developments across the U.S., highlighting ways in which America has become more equal and just, as well as innovations and advances in many parts of our culture, and showcases organizations and groups that strive every day to make our country and the world safer and healthier.

American Milestones with Joan Lunden shines a light on individuals, companies and groups across the U.S. and worldwide that have come up with innovative solutions to problems and challenges facing Americans and people around the world.
